With this project, I used AI to make two different versions of my resume, each targeted toward a different industry. First, I had to write specific prompts including my original résumé, the type of job each version was supposed to fit, and the tone I needed. For example, I asked the AI to “rewrite my resume for a Marketing role, focusing on communication, and audience engagement,” while for the second version, I said, “rewrite this résumé for an Operations or Management role, highlighting planning, coordination, and efficiency.”
Specific prompts helped the AI understand what to focus on. For example, in the Marketing version, it underlined my leadership to promote the performances and engage audiences for the choir. In the Operations version, it was more about scheduling, logistics, and coordinating with the team members. Although the content was from the same experiences, the framing changed in terms of industry. What I learned from this process is that prompt engineering is really about giving instructions to AI. The more specific the prompt, the better the results will match what was intended. It also showed me how I can tailor the same information toward different audiences by changing the focus and wording.
